Leeds Castle, UK

Leeds Castle is one of England's most picturesque castles; this survivor of 1000 years emerges into the 21st century pre-eminent among the great buildings of the British Isles. Leeds Castle dates back to 1119, though a manor house stood on the same site from the 9th century. The castle and grounds lie to the East of the village of Leeds. In 1278, the castle became a royal palace for King Edward I of England and his queen. In 1321, King Edward II besieged the castle after his queen was refused admission and forced its defenders to surrender. Henry VIII transformed the castle for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon.
